Uni’s out for summer

Well folks, I’ve just finished my second year of university today and I’ve got to say it is a relief as I can finally relax and look forward to the summer, yet at the same time it’s also quite sad as by the time I get round to doing my 3rd year some of my close friends will have graduated as they opted out of a placement year.

What I can say though is that I’ve had a fantastic year and some great times since coming to Salford, it has been a great laugh and I will definitely be keeping in touch with the MIT crowd throughout my life.

Anyway, this summer, what will I be doing..

What’s down the line?

Well it has been quite some 12 months for me, starting the second year of university, turning 20, travelling around Europe, starting to learn to drive and obtaining my work placement for the next year of university, the list is endless. But what have I got planned from now until Christmas?

With my last exam in sight on Thursday I can finally get planning my summer holidays, i’ll be starting with the world cup, the pinnacle of the football calendar. England have a great chance going into this world cup, with Wayne Rooney, arguably the best striker in the world, leading the line, the big question is whether we have a suitable strike partner for him. I would personally favour Peter Crouch against less credible opposition due to his excellent goal scoring record against these sorts of team, in the bigger games I am yet to make up my mind on whether he is suitable, but only time will tell. Other teams that I will be closely keeping my eye on are Argentina and the Ivory Coast. That man Diego Maradonna is on a mission to prove all of his critics wrong and bring glory to his country once again. With two Newcastle players thought to be in his starting eleven (Gutierrez and Collocini) I will be hoping they perform well and go a long way in the competition. As for the Ivory Coast I think it is safe to say that every England fan will have one eye on Sven Goran Eriksons’ men when they take to the field in South Africa and see if both Sven and his team of Ivorians can make it out of the group of death alive.

So what after the world cup? Well I will be hoping to get a holiday booked at some point, abroad or somewhere in the UK, I’m not too fussed as long as I can put my feet up after a year of hard graft at university. I’ll also be hoping to start getting back into some light games of football after what feels like a very long time out of the game, almost 3 and a half months. I will be continuing to go to physiotherapy in order to try and strengthen the knee and get it fully bending and straightening again, it really has been hard work but I am hoping the worst is behind me now and that my ACL is on the road to recovery.

As mentioned earlier, I started applying for placements for the next year of my university course in February and I was lucky enough to be offered a placement at web design and social media firm, Fast Web Media, based in Manchester. This will be a great experience and I cannot wait to start working under the Junior PHP developer title. I will be starting work in August and my disciplines will involve PHP, Javascript (JQuery) and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) amongst other things. So after a relaxing summer I can look forward to beginning my web development career and take my first step on to the ladder.
